Roger C Parker, The Author's Author [not ‘immediate' family], interviews Dan Ariely who will be commenting on an important ADD/ADHD topic: Decision Making and Irrationality. Tomorrow!

Roger is a friend of mine, is very bright on the subject of brains and planning, as you will see at his website when you run over there for this important interview.

You know how I have been talking frequently about how ADD subsets suffer with unmanageable cognitive abundance [this post from '06] and indecision. I thought you would be interested in this interview… tune in tomorrow over at Published and Profitable.

The Details from Published and Profitable:

"Join me next Wednesday on an exclusive Published & Profitable interview when I interview Dan Ariely, author of Predictably Irrational: The Hidden Forces that Influence Our Decisions. Dan’s book has been a bestseller since its appearance in February. Predictably Irrational continues to be in the Top 100 overall books at Amazon, as well as a Top 10 leader in various psychology categories.

During my interview, we’ll be discussing the lessons Predictably Irrational teaches about the human brain and their implications for business owners and marketers. We’ll also explore the way that bestselling books are planned, written, and promoted, as well as the changes they bring their authors.

Noteworthy:

  • Dan's book immediately jumped to high sales ranking, both overall at Amazon, as well as the top of the Nonfiction, Psychology, and Sales categories.
  • Lots of psychology books out there, Dan's story has lots of implications for other psychologists writing books
  • Roger has previously interviewed Dr. James Prochaska, co-author of Changing For Good.

"Dan Ariely and I will discuss Predictably Irrational’s success from the point of view of Published & Profitable’s 4-step structure:

1. Plan.
When was the Predictably Irrational title finalized? What other titles were considered?  Did he use a particular book proposal format?

2. Write
. How long it take Dan Ariely to write Predictably Irrational? What are his writing habits like? How much rewriting was involved? Does he have any writing shortcuts or tips to share?

3. Promote.
When did Dan begin planning and implementing Predictably Irrational’s promotion? What type of promotion has worked the best?

4. Profit. How has Dan benefited from the success of Predictably Irrational? Has its success exceeded his expectations?

The meeting with Dan is tomorrow, Wednesday, October 8, between 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM EST. To attend, call dial 1-218-486-1616 and use PIN #513391.

  1. Manuel,
Went over to your site for the English version and very much enjoyed the YouTube selections. It is quite interesting how scientific discovery and good management sometimes appear to function as competing resources.

We are much on the same path – reengineering rather than microfixing does seem to be the next order for brain science.

Thanks for reading and commenting, please feel free to comment directly on this material from your perspective as well,
    cp

  2. Roger,
I hope your turnout was good yesterday for the interview, and I am very much looking forward to the replay over at Published and Profitable as I unable to attend that particular meeting yesterday…

Anyone interested in writing a book should be signed on to the regular comprehensive and well organized reviews and good advice over at

    – I have found Roger a great resource, fun, bright and over the top with experience.

The good excuse for not attending – I was out on a rare work break, fishing in the Eastern Shore of VA barrier islands, far from phones, out where the bull rays were rooting for clams, the peregrine falcons were duck hunting, a marsh hawk loomed at the water’s edge, and a bald eagle headed out for the ocean shore.

It was an unusually wonderful fall day day with my son Nat – speckled trout abundant, red drum, needlefish, stripers are not in yet, – more stories forthcoming on a regular posting with pictures.

    Thanks for the heads up!
    Chuck

  3. Dear Chuck:
Thank you for sharing news about my upcoming interview with Dan Ariely, author of Predictably Irrational: The Hidden Forces that Shape Our Decisions.

Dan’s book is a masterpiece of clarity and good reading. It’s success reminds me of the long-term success of another psychology author I interviewed for Pubished & profitable, Dr. James Prochaska, author of Change for Good.

I am always gratified when I locate finely crafted books that seemingly come out of nowhere and enjoy great success. It sort of vindicates the importance of individual voice and quality in a mass-produced world.
