Metabolism and Burn Rate Matter With ADHD medsYour Body Burns, Metabolizes, ADHD Medications

In November it will be 7 years I've been sending out these CorePsych electronic articles – but many still miss the most important message: This ADHD Medication Management Thing is all about Metabolism, about Burn Rate – actually Medication Metabolism Awareness.

Do these sound familiar?

  • Transit time
  • Immunity
  • Drug interactions
  • Genetics
  • Trace Elements
  • Cytokines
  • IgG
  • Duration Of Effectiveness – DOE
  • All of these address metabolism, burn rate

Overlooked? Why?

The reason these metabolism issues remain so often overlooked? It's simple: they aren't obvious. They aren't obvious clinically, you can't see them easily, and too many remain in denial about their absolute importance in everyday medication life.

If you take any meds, especially any psych meds, you must know about metabolism – how your body burns – or uses the medications you take. Just like this lava flow – if you only look at a part of the picture, that cold part, you'll miss the fire.

This brief video covers some of the details in visual form, and explains why Metabolism encouraged me to wrote New ADHD Medication Rules

    Dr Parker,

Just watched your video explaining the 2D6 Pipeline in the liver…..now it has me wondering about my 7 year old daughter. No meds seem to work for her. She does well for about a week , then all goes awry! How do I find out if she has the genetic predisposition for a narrow pipeline. How do you medicate such individuals if there is always a “back up” in the pipeline and then a BOOM reaction?

    • Cora,
Your example is clearly related to this post on Metabolism… We do genetic testing here w several CYP 450 testing groups. However, if she did OK for a little bit and if she has the same reaction to Methylphenidate [Ritalin, Concerta] products there’s little need to spend the money on that one – as she more likely suffers from metabolic slowing from another additional source. Take a look at the playlist on Gut and Brain here.
      Hope this helps,
