Sonie Weisenburg FNP-C

CorePsych In DC Rapidly Evolves
Take a moment to meet our interesting new DC colleague, Sonie Weisenburg, Family Nurse Practitioner – Certified. As a Family NP she is licensed to work with children, and loves the child work as much as I do, – and also brings the adult experience of working with and training medical personnel as a Captain in the US Air Force.  Think: good mom and experienced medical administrator/trainer – what a diverse practice experience.

Sonie is a delightful, engaging addition to our medical team, loves the CorePsych medical/philosophic take on matters regarding comprehensive evaluation and treatment, including the deeper connections between traditional pharmacological insights neurotransmitter testing, the endocrine understandings, and our serious emphasis on immune challenges as they relate to brain function.

As a nurse she not only brings a refreshingly positive approach to challenging presentations, but adds a committed, open mind to the office puzzles we so often see.  Sonie graduated with a BS in Nursing from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA, 2004, and completed master's graduate NP training at Marymount University in Arlington, VA, 2006.

Interestingly, she worked quite recently as a FNP for a pediatric gastroenterology group, which will fit right in with our regular focus on biomedical issues with the interplay between bowel and brain function.

Sunday with David Perlmutter, MD and David Hasse, MD
After meeting Sonie by phone several times. we met for the first time in person last weekend at the excellent day of presentations by David Perlmutter in Falls Church VA.

Side note: I have been suggesting reading Perlmutter [see his variety of brain presentations here]  for several years now [see this Traumatic Brain Injury post from about 2 years ago] especially his Better Brain Book. David defensively calls himself “The Renegade Neurologist” – and, honestly, that is really not how he comes across in his books or in person. Actually he is so scientific and so conservative he looks like a renegade only to those with limited/institutional thinking. – More about that very interesting meeting with Perlmutter on new brain insights coming in later posts.

Welcome Sonie!
