PPS: A Review
Check out this super review by Steven D. Freedman in Baltimore [Thanks Steven!]:
There are plenty of important concepts in this book. Relating to ADHD itself, Dr Parker's insights into different types of ADHD symptoms, as he defines them, is eye-opening and, I believe, is “required reading” for everyone in the field. His contention is that symptoms which are functionally different must be addressed differently. His description of “Thinking Without Acting”, which he calls the most prevalent subset of ADHD and the most overlooked, is itself worth the price of the book.
Regarding medications: some of the most important concepts he deals with or introduces are the expected duration of effectiveness (defining and monitoring), and the effects of allergies and metabolism on medications. His explanations of drug interactions is the clearest and most informative I have seen in a book whose target audience includes (but is not limited to) the lay reader.
For ADHD medications to be optimally effective as well as safe, the patient and the prescribing doctor must take into account a number of (for the most part) simple concepts, and they must do so with patience and perseverance. Dr Parker's zeal to spread this message is fueled by the fact that neither patients nor prescribers tend to “follow the rules”, with the result of much unnecessary suffering.
This is an important book for everyone impacted by ADHD to read and understand.

INFO YOU *NEED* TO KNOW
=======================
EVEN if you missed the free download, this is a book you WILL want in your ADD library.
I highly recommend that you go get it anyway — whether it works best for you to pay a bit for the Kindle download or a bit more for the paperback copy you can highlight, underline, and make notes in the margin (my personal choice, btw – helps me focus & intake info).
This is information you probably won’t find anywhere else, and it makes A LOT of sense! After all, medication has to get through the body to reach the brain, right?
NO brain-based medication works as designed if it isn’t reaching the brain as designed. There are a number of ways things can go wrong – and things YOU can do to make sure they don’t.
As reviewer Steven D. Freedman points out, there are, essentially, “different strokes for different folks!” Brains and bodies are different in each of us – so symptoms of ADD are different as well.
There aren’t many doctors who understand this part of the equation very well. Fewer still understand how to work with and *around* any glitches encountered – since these concepts aren’t covered very well in med school, even though they are medically valid.
FEWER STILL (if any), will take the time to explain the factors involved so that YOU can understand what’s going on and how to work with or around them.
CLASSES TOO
===========
This is not a very big book – it’s short, but dense. So if you discover you need more to fully understand what’s included, sign up for one of his webinars. He does many for free (with still more at a nominal charge for coaches and other ADD pros). Read the book FIRST, however.
“Good enough” functioning is simply NOT good *enough*!! Optimal Functioning is your birthright.
