Streetwise in the Barrier Islands
Just a brief note on a rare day off, fishing with my son Nat, out of Oyster, VA with Charlie Standt, a full time Cherrystone clam farmer, and part-time fishing guide on the Eastern Shore of Virginia, about 40 min north of Virginia Beach just over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. Charlie was full of info on the abundant wildlife, and how waterman make a living with the changing seasons.
Fishing, oddly enough, is like working in a psych office – kinda like new discoveries with psych medications.
We fished from South Bay , down around Mockhorn Bay, all the way down south to Fisherman's Island, caught and released many Speckled Trout, a Red Drum, a Needlefish – and, saw a Peregrine Falcon [fly right past the boat], a Bald Eagle, March Hawks, many Great Blue Herons, it was a remarkably beautiful day on the Eastern Shore – a naturalists dream [see the link/map to Oyster, just a few miles from Onley, VA, pronounced 'only'].
I loved the opportunity to be out there with my son who lives in LA, rarely has the time to come East, and who always catches more and/or bigger fish – except for this day.
<This is a sample of the beautiful Specks we caught
The Bottom Line:
– Charlie's interesting waterman observation on the 'ways of fishing' that so matches what we do everyday in the office:
Charlie on "The Best Day Fishing?"
"Not more or bigger fish, but finding a new place, a new way to fish."
Interesting comment – sure seemed like he was talking some street wisdom to us at CorePsych. Think for a moment about it – so much new is going on, so many interesting discoveries in neuroscience… new places and new ways to solve the complexity of thinking and feeling.
Does this deep connection mean I'm a workaholic?

Does it mean you are a workaholic? Are you asking for a diagnosis? 🙂
I’d wager it means you are engaged.
Thanks, I enjoyed that vicarious trip to one of my favorite coastal areas.
